An Easy and Elegant Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year. We get to bring our family together, make and eat delicious food, and get cozy as the weather turns from fall to winter. I've always felt that these occasions should be celebrated in style, and have developed a simple formula that helps make it an elevated affair.

My favorite table settings are neutral - Crate and Barrel is my favorite place to source affordable plates that can easily mix and match with seasonal accent pieces. I also like to add in seasonal pieces that are sourced from quick-ship retailers like Amazon with some neutral florals. I prefer using fresh florals but you can easily use silk or plastic greenery from the craft store and add some twine or linen ribbon to jazz it up.

Setting a great table doesn't have to be expensive - if you have a solid base of reliable, quality pieces in a neutral palette, you can easily accent with vintage finds from thrift stores and antique fairs. Serve your mashed potatoes in a quirky antique soup tureen. Ladle gravy out of a ceramic pumpkin. Mix and match crystal coupes and cocktail glasses from a thrift store to serve wine and cocktails.

Below are some of my favorite work horse staples that make holiday tablescapes easy and elegant without breaking the bank.

  1. i like to keep it simple frayed linen placemats, linen napkins, and matte black flatware for a neutral and balanced look. these pieces are easy to mix and match across all seasons. mix in a little green sprig, small pumpkins, or pinecones to bring an organic seasonal element to the table.

  2. every year i order seasonal greenery - i love hanging a seeded eucalyptus wreath and arranging eucalyptus runners as low profile centerpieces. bonus - they smell delicious and last a few weeks if you mist lightly with water every few days. be sure to order ahead!

  3. i love tall, dripping candles - something about a flickering flame is just so romantic. these black candlesticks are dramatic but subtle.

  4. i exclusively use the Mercer collection service from Crate and Barrel. it's affordable, sturdy, and has a beautiful texture that is easy to style.

  5. these TeakHaus cutting boards are great for carving and serving roasts. just be sure to apply mineral oil every month or so to keep these looking great for decades to come.
