About Us

01 our story

While working on renovations and remodels on their properties across three states, best friends Meltem and Kayla (MK) grew frustrated with the challenges of designing, sourcing, and fabricating unique finishes and furnishings for their homes. They began to visit antique fairs, scour thrift stores, and work with fabricators to create pieces that had a rich story and personal meaning.

As the pair continued their scouting adventures around the world, they began to develop an affinity for materials with patina and history, which led them into the world of reclamation and re-use. As tech and finance executives who have experience building and operating businesses, they saw an opportunity to create a studio to bring their style and these materials to a wider audience while using technology to streamline the experience of design.

MK Studio was born from a desire for meaningful relationships between people, the spaces they occupy, and the materials and objects they interact with every day.

Services

02 our services

We currently work on design projects on a referral basis only. In the future, we will expand from custom and bespoke services to more structured product lines at a wide range of price points. We expect to offer tile and stone products in early 2024 alongside our first collection of made to order furniture.

Design

Our team loves designing welcoming spaces that have a story. We develop and implement interior design for both commercial and residential spaces, and can fabricate and source a wide range of materials, finishes, and products from our own inventory and our partners across the world.

Fabrication

We work with clients to design, fabricate, and install home furnishings including shelving, mantles, accent walls, furniture, and more. All fabrication work is completed in our wood shop in Connecticut and customized to meet our clients’ needs.

Deconstruction

In partnership with the Re-Use People, a 501(c)3 organization, we provide building deconstruction and materials salvage services. We stock wood and other materials we utilize in our design and fabrication business, and focus on re-use and recycle of materials and finishes.
